Our Two are Three

Last bit of catching up: The Birthday-Halloween Bash

October 31st fell on a Sunday this year. That morning, we got up and made the kids their favorite breakfast, namely, waffles w/ pumpkin butter (they have not yet had the privilege of being introduced to syrup). And, of course, Jess and Evelyn were well aware of what the day had in store for them: Halloween, turning three, a party, presents, cake, going trick-or-treating. Needless to say, they were VERY excited.

Here they are at breakfast talking about how old they are:

During church, the kids belted out the 'Our Father' with their usual gusto (such gusto that I worry they're distracting our congregation from being able to focus on the service--sometimes I think I even see our minister struggling to keep a straight face). Then, in the solemn quiet that follows the singing of this song, they suddenly remembered what day it was and congratulated each other accordingly: "Happy birthday, Jesse!" Evelyn announces loudly; "Happy birthday, Evie!" he calls back (even though she's sitting right next to him). So sweet.

As for the rest of the day, it involved the usual Birthday-Halloween celebratory preparations and activities. This year was the second annual joint birthday party with our good friends, the Malones, whose daughter, Eva, also has a Halloween birthday (she was turning 2).

Here's the day in pics. (If you can't see the slide show, go here: http://picasaweb.google.com/SuesCBT/3rdBirthday?feat=directlink)

Not only do I remember playing with the very same little people set as a child, we gave our son that set last year for Christmas. He was four at the time and it was his first Christmas after being adopted in July and he was thrilled to death when he saw them Christmas morning.
