Saints and Sinners

First a story about Jess.

So, the kids have been in something of door-slamming phase. Slamming them open (yeah, you heard me right; in fact, we just patched a hole in the wall of their room which was cause by the door knob's repeated and forceful contact with said wall) and slamming them closed.

Anyhow, just the other day Brent was engaging in a door-slamming intervention. He'd issued to both kids a firm "no more slamming the doors!" kind of command. But promptly thereafter Jess proceeds to walk right over to the door, getting ready to slam it. And Brent says, exaspterated: "Jesse! WHAT in the world are you doing!?!

And Jesse responds--in a kind of questioning tone: "Uhm. Getting in trouble??"

Now about Evelyn.

Last night, when we were reading the kids some stories before bed, the book that Evelyn and I were looking at had a picture of St. Francis of Assisi. I pointed to him and said, "Hey Evie, that's St. Francis--one of God's saints! You know, I want you to grow up to be one of God's saints too!"

Her response? Looking at the picture she says seriously: "Oh mom. No thank you."
